The First Global DePIN Expo 2025 Successfully Concludes in Hong Kong
The first global DePIN Expo 2025 has successfully concluded at Cyberport in Hong Kong! The conference brought together global industry leaders, scholars, and developers, focusing on decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN), AI, and cutting-edge Web3 applications, showcasing over 20 innovative projects and highlighting Hong Kong's strategic position as an international DePIN hub, opening a new chapter for real-world infrastructure and economic models.
From August 27 to 28, 2025, the DePIN Expo 2025, co-initiated by CGV and DeMall, and organized by Web3Labs, MetaEra, and Techub News, with Cyberport as a co-organizer, was successfully held at Cyberport in Hong Kong. As the world's first flagship event themed on decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN), this event, themed "Life, Reimagined with DePIN," gathered industry leaders, scholars, investors, and developers from around the world to discuss how DePIN technology can reshape real-world infrastructure and economic models.
Opening Remarks: Hong Kong as a Strategic Hub for DePIN and Web3
The conference officially commenced with the opening remarks by Dr. Nicholas Yang, CEO of Cyberport Hong Kong.
Dr. Yang stated: "Cyberport, as Hong Kong's digital technology hub and AI accelerator, gathers over 2,200 startups and has the largest blockchain and digital asset ecosystem in Hong Kong, including more than 290 blockchain companies. Through the 'Cyberport Investor Network' under the 'Web3.0 Investment Circle,' we have gathered over 40 investment units focusing on blockchain technology, promoting the deep integration of DePIN with the real economy. We are building a complete ecosystem from technology implementation, funding connection to industrial application, actively utilizing the resources of Cyberport's supercomputing center and AI ecosystem to promote the deep integration of AI and blockchain technology, accelerating the application of blockchain technology in the real economy, and creating a broader future for digital assets, blockchain technology, and the Web3.0 industry."
Kevin Ren, a partner at CGV and initiator of DePIN Expo, elaborated on the classification of DePIN and its practical applications in daily life during his speech, themed "Life, Reimagined with DePIN." He pointed out that DePIN is not only the physical carrier of the combination of AI and Web3 but also a key infrastructure for realizing the "machine economy." Kevin also announced that the DeAI Expo will be held in 2026 to further promote the integration of decentralized AI with the physical world.
Keynote Speech: Technology Integration and Ecological Construction Become the Focus
Yao Ding, Head of Growth for the Asia-Pacific region at the Solana Foundation, shared how the Solana network empowers DePIN project development through its high performance and low-cost features. He presented multiple data points indicating that Solana has become one of the preferred public chains for the implementation of DePIN projects.
Dr. Cai Kailong, CEO of NANO bit, approached the topic from the perspective of compliance and capital markets, pointing out that the cryptocurrency industry is experiencing a one-way integration of "the crypto world into Wall Street." He emphasized that quality projects need to achieve value release through listing on the US stock market or compliant capital markets, and he analyzed the interaction mechanism among industry, market, and regulation in detail.
Professor Allen Yang from UC Berkeley pointed out from an academic research perspective that the energy consumption issues of AI applications could lead to centralization risks, while decentralized computing platforms and edge computing will be important solutions. He specifically mentioned the demand for real-time local processing capabilities in embodied AI, calling for the promotion of decentralized and federated development of AI edge computing.
Policy and Legislative Support: Hong Kong Actively Builds a Web3-Friendly Environment
In the opening remarks on the afternoon of the 27th, Dr. Wu Jiezhuang, a member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, detailed Hong Kong's legislative progress in the field of virtual assets.
He pointed out that Hong Kong has issued 11 licenses for virtual asset exchanges and introduced regulations for stablecoin supervision. Next year, it will also promote relevant regulations for over-the-counter (OTC) trading and custodial services. Dr. Wu noted that the global data asset scale is approximately $40 trillion, of which 93% are native tokens, while the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) accounts for less than 1%, indicating significant future potential. He emphasized that Hong Kong will collaborate with the United States to promote industry innovation and urged entrepreneurs to seize the development opportunities of DePIN and RWA.
Caspar, CEO of Web3Labs, further added that the Hong Kong Financial Secretary has allocated funds to support the Cyberport Web3 ecosystem, which has incubated over 50 projects in the past two years and launched incubation plans in cooperation with multiple public chains to provide comprehensive support for entrepreneurs.
Roundtable Discussion: The Integration Path of DePIN with AI and Web3
The roundtable forum on the morning of the 27th, themed "Hong Kong's Role and Path in the DePIN × Web3 Ecosystem," was hosted by Seven, COO of MetaEra. The guests unanimously agreed that Hong Kong, with its international financial status and policy openness, possesses unique advantages to become a DePIN hub. Pauline Fan, Senior Vice President of InvestHK, emphasized the importance of open-source communities, while Rachel Lee from Cyberport pointed out that they will continue to attract public chains and ecological projects to settle in Hong Kong. Wang Yiwen from the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Association stated that DePIN can attract talents from the AI field to settle in Hong Kong, while Yao Ding from the Solana Foundation believes that Hong Kong has significant market potential as a connector between Eastern and Western markets. Crystal Tang, CEO of Hitch, shared experiences regarding the Hich Open competition.
Another roundtable, "How Can DePIN Become the Global New Infrastructure Gateway?" was hosted by Edward, a partner at CGV, with participants including Henrique Centieiro, Research Lead at peaq, Chris Bian Ong from DPIN Foundation, Logan N from Hyra Network, Gunjan, VP of Beamable, and Ryan Ma from FMG. The guests discussed from three dimensions: enterprise-level middleware, data sovereignty, and compliance transformation, pointing out that DePIN is evolving from consumer-level applications to compliant enterprise services, becoming a truly "new operating system for the real world."
On the 28th, the roundtable "Is AI × DePIN Rewriting the Protocols of the Real World?" was hosted by Lin, SVP of Nano Bit. IoTeX Eastern stated that the current focus is on solving the black box and trust issues of AI. JT Song from 0G labs introduced the one-stop data storage, computing power, and consensus solutions provided by 0g for DePIN. Heric mentioned that current users prefer devices with revenue mechanisms. Larry from Kaia Foundation believes that the success of DePIN requires meeting user base, real value applications, and scale effects. QuanYu from RootData shared insights on investment and financing data, noting that DePIN remains one of the areas most focused on by capital.
Project Roadshow and Ecological Showcase: Innovative Applications Highlighted
The conference featured an Open Stage segment where over 20 DePIN projects were showcased live, covering various fields such as decentralized storage, edge computing, smart hardware, data collection, and payment solutions. The classification of the exhibited projects is shown in the following images.
