Socios.com and Securitize Launch Tokenized Shares for Sports Clubs
Socios.com has partnered with Securitize to create regulated tokenized shares, called "Socios Equity Tokens," allowing for minority stakes in professional sports franchises. Socios.com will manage relationships with the sports industry and fan engagement, while Securitize will handle the issuance of securities and investor management. This project will be the first tokenization operation via Securitize's European Trading & Settlement System (ETS), which manages approximately $5 billion in assets. The Socios Equity Tokens will target both supporters seeking a stronger economic relationship with their club and institutional investors looking for alternative assets. Professional sports franchises have a total value of around $500 billion. Despite the past success of fan tokens, their popularity has declined since 2021-2022, leading to the separation of fan tokens and Socios Equity Tokens. Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz Group, emphasizes the importance of this evolution, while Carlos Domingo, CEO of Securitize, sees an opportunity for clubs to issue capital while protecting investors. No participating clubs or launch dates have been announced.
