Fed's Collins: Further Rate Hikes Possible Before Year-End
Boston Fed President Susan Collins stated that the Federal Reserve may need to raise interest rates further before the end of the year to ensure inflation returns to the 2% target. She noted that whether to tighten policy further and the timing of such decisions depend on upcoming economic data and how this data influences her assessment of the economic outlook and risk balance. Collins warned that infrastructure investments in artificial intelligence could lead to excessive investment booms, and if related demand stimulates household spending and overheats the labor market, inflation could remain persistently above the Fed's target.
