DeFi lending vault deposits exceed 10 billion dollars amid regulatory scrutiny

Deposits in DeFi-based cryptocurrency lending products, known as lending vaults, have surpassed 10 billion dollars, rising from approximately 4 billion dollars at the beginning of last year. This growth is attributed to stablecoin holders seeking returns by lending assets to traders. U.S. and European regulators are now assessing the need for increased oversight of lending vaults. The U.S. SEC announced in July that it is reviewing whether these vaults fall under securities laws. In September, the European Securities and Markets Authority proposed regulations for gatekeepers that facilitate access to DeFi services, indicating that these rules could also apply to crypto asset service providers that support access to lending vaults.
